Sway
With Simon Cullen, I co-created Sway, an educational chat platform that connects students with differing perspectives into one-on-one conversations and uses AI to facilitate better discussions between them. Sway is provided by Disagree Wisely, Inc. in collaboration with Heterodox Academy.
Sway creates scaffolded environments where students can practice constructive disagreement, honing skills like intellectual humility, cognitive empathy, and critical thinking.
We're working to normalize reasoned conversations between students with opposing perspectives and help transform fraught arguments into opportunities for greater understanding.
As of November 2025, Sway has been adopted by over 150 instructors at nearly 100 colleges and universities, reaching approximately 10,000 users.
